The Start of Something New....

Welcome to our new fire blog.

The purpose for this endeavor is to help our community learn more about their Fire Department and to increase the fire and life safety of the Clear Spring Fire – Rescue district. We are always looking for new ways to get our message out to our residents, and hope that this will be one more “tool” in our “toolbox” to reach out to the public. We hope that you will come back frequently and check our blog for updates on the events, information sharing, and announcements, of Clear Spring Fire –Rescue.

Our first post will be an introduction of sorts, a get to know us post about some of the things you may not be aware of.

On March 3, 1981 East Simpsonville Fire Department was officially organized by Greenville County Council to serve a 21 square mile are area along Woodruff Road to the boundary of Spartanburg County and east to the boundary of Laurens County, all of which were previously covered by contracts with other Fire Departments.

On July 1, 2004 East Simpsonville Fire Department, through an ordinance with Greenville County officially changed the name of the Department to Clear Spring Fire – Rescue.

In the beginning the Department operated strictly off of donations and fundraisers, and was comprised solely of dedicated men and women who volunteered their time to protect the residents of this district. Since then, there have been countless emergencies and firefighters, but what has not changed; we still remain a community based fire department, always searching new and more effective ways to interact with our residents. We are currently what is called a combination fire department, meaning that even though we have a small force of paid firefighters we work closely with, and depend on around 20 dedicated volunteer firefighters.

Though, not all of our employees and volunteers live in the district, a large portion do. Many of these individuals have long standing family ties to this area, and bring with them a history of civil service.

We operate out of two fire stations, our Headquarters Station is located at 3008 Woodruff Road, in what was originally the Pliney Grange School House, and Station # 2is located at 2435 East Georgia Road.

Our stations are manned 24 hours a day; 7 days a week by our Paid Firefighters, where they are assigned to one of our three shifts. Our administrative staff works Monday through Friday, and our volunteers are on call 24 hours a day.

Clear Spring Fire – Rescue operates with 5 Engines, a 75’ Ladder, a Brush Truck, a Rescue Truck, Shift Commander Vehicle, Fire Marshal Vehicle and a Chief’s Vehicle. Additionally, we respond to approximately 600 calls annually, these include medical responses, traffic accidents, fire alarms, grass fires, structure fires, as well as basic Haz Mat mitigation and rescue.

Keep checking back for additional information and updates, it is our plan to “blog” several times a month about your Fire Department.
